Tira Ora Historic Lodge was built as an original homestead, and served as a Post Office in the Pelorus Sound.

The foundation original building is still intact, complete with a slate billiard table, piano, and open fire place.

Restoration & repairs are on going, to the original building, additional wings and covered decks have been added.

Tira Ora Historic Lodge now has a reception area, bar & billiard room, blue leather lounge suite around the original fireplace, extensive library room, music room, chapel, dining rooms and decorations to celebrate every occassion, large kitchen with wood-stove, and walk in pantry.  Step into the original Post Office room, for a stamp, and read history of this site.

Tira Ora Historic Lodge is the private dining, entertainment and indoor relaxation area for chalet guests.

Our Historic Lodge can be booked for special occasions, including weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and events listed on our calender.

Around the lodge and between the lodge and the jetty one finds a wide range of native and exotic trees and shrubs.  There are many spots to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush, the river and the beach.
Lodge Environs
The Elders Forest is easily accessible from the Lodge.  It was named soon after we came to Tira Ora in 1999; identifying it is a place where young and old can access the pleasures of the bush without having to take to the hills!
Elders Forest

Four hectares of original native broadleaved forest on the damp, sheltered northern slope of Tira Ora valley.

The Stairway to Heaven is the highest peak among those surrounding the Tira Ora valley.  The climb to the top is for the fit and adventurous, but the views are well worth the effort.
