Tira Ora

Estate

WELCOME

Group Eco-Facility

Our Clubhouse is in the heart of Tira Ora, beside a stunning forest, and at the edge of beautiful Tira Ora Bay.

The aqua-coloured bay is perfect for swimming and water sports, it has a wide rocky beach famous for its many 'HEART' shaped rocks.  Our Clubhouse is central to all the natural attractions in and around Tira Ora.

The Clubhouse is a large open-plan building for cooking, eating and relaxing.  It is equipped with a salad-making bar, gas cooktop, electric toaster-oven,  microwave and refrigerator.  There are large dining tables, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans: everything necessary for food preparation — even highchairs for the little ones.   The lounge of large overstuffed furniture is under a canopy of grapevines and passionfruit vines lining the ceiling.  Each Family/Group provides their own food and does its own food preparation and clean-up.  There is a woodstove to provide warmth and a lovely environment in the evenings.  It is a central gathering place for everyone, also serving for family recreation on rainy days.

Families/Groups should come prepared to enjoy an experience of a lifetime, eco-living in the heart of the Marlborough Sounds, far from the business and stressful pace of urban living: Tira Ora offers a timeless quality of life.

Our electricity is generated from a micro-hydro system.  During drought conditions, it may be turned off over-night (10pm-8pm) in order to maintain the reservoir level.  We have composting toilets designed on the Outward Bound model and solar showers for your convenience and NZ eco-experience.

You will be able to enjoy the refreshing drinking water of Tira Ora that flows straight from our Kings and Queens waterfalls, filtered and available from the taps.

Accommodation for groups is open-plan, marae-style, located in our Second Story Loft/Bunk house with lovely views of Tira Ora mountains and bay.  Groups are to bring their own sheets, sleeping bags and pillowcases, towels and facecloths, toilet articles, groceries (we can provide top-ups of some of the basics), and flashlights.

You must bring your own insect repellent - and antihistamine tablets if you know that your are sensitive to sandfly bites.

Groups/Families are given the tasks of maintaining the Clubhouse while in residence.  Tasks include keeping the kitchen clean, maintaining the composting toilets, feeding the animals, collecting pine cones, and cutting firewood.  This pitching-in is also very important to the spirit of Tira Ora.  The Tira Ora experience will equip you with practical survival skills and ideas you can implement in your future.

Price: $75 per adult, $60 per child.
