Four hectares of original native broadleaved forest on the damp, sheltered northern slope of Tira Ora valley.  Large pukatea are emergent above a canopy of nikau, kamahi and hinau, with miro, mahoe, tawa and mamaku.  Mahoe, Nikau, ponga, Ongaonga and Pigeonwood are common in the understorey, and lianes and epiphytes abundant.
